You should also take note of the cervical mucus. There is also a technique called “Ovulation Calculator” – this calculator can be very accurate.

We are Trying Acupuncture to Conceive

I recently applied to, and got an interview with an infertility clinic, which got me to thinking…

1) With IVF, among other modes of infertility treatments, some waste is produced, be it embryos, or merely unfertilized ovum. What is your opinion on IVF? Does the waste of potential life outweigh the gain of conception, or does the good that it brings, such as our requirement to be fruitful and multiply outweigh the loss of potential life? Would your opinion change if the unused embryos were used for scientific research, such as cells being harvested for stem cells? What if they were frozen? If embryos/ovum were wasted, would the woman have to go to the mikvah to purify herself (I saw another question about a mikvah, so I just thought that I would ask about that)? If a male had his sperm tested for motility, would that be wasting seed, or is it justified because it is to find a problem if it exists, which could eventually lead to conception?

2) There is a procedure that can detect chromosomal abnormalities by taking a few cells from an embryo while the cells are still totipotent and will not harm the embryo, and choose those embryos with the best chance of survival. What is your opinion on this procedure? If you could determine the sex of the potential embryo, would it be acceptable to use it to fulfill the need of parents to have at least one girl and one boy (one of the Rabbis I speak to vaguely mentioned about the need to have at least one boy and one girl)?
